Rocklands
Feeding Station
Have
you ever fed a humming bird, perched gently on your finger? Then
enjoy this unique experience for yourself and at the same time take
the opportunity to relax, unwind and see other wild Jamaican birds.
In
1954 Lisa Salmon moved into a small cottage, Rocklands, in the hills
of Anchovy, over looking Montego Bay. with a strong love of nature
she set about feeding the local birds. Her reputation as a bird
lover and naturalist earned her the name "the Bird Lady".
Having
a constant flow of visiting bird watchers she decided to open Rocklands
to the public in 1962.
Since
then Rocklands has hosted thousands of people from all over the
world. Royalty and "commoners" have come to this rustic
setting and patiently waited for, seen and fed a variety of wild
birds, both local migratory. The favourite activity by far is feeding
the beautiful emerald green streamer tailed humming bird, the national
bird of Jamaica. |
